Learning The “Secrets” of Production

Vacuum Metallizing to Enhance Quality

Coating, metallizing, thermal spraying, vacuum metallizing, vacuum deposition, and metalation are various process involved in metallization process. Coating in metallization is used in enhancing appearance, adhesion and resistance to corrosion, wear and scratches through covering the surface of the object with another substance. Treatment, coating and combination of an object with a metal are among the processes involved in metallizing. Heating or melting a substance then spraying it on the surface of the object is known as thermal metallization. Reacting an organometallic compound with an organic compound results into a new substance and the process is referred to as metalation process. Vacuum deposition involves all processes used in placing a very thin layer of a substance on the object in a vacuum. Vacuum metalizing is the process of coating an object with a metal where the process takes place in a vacuum chamber.

Vacuum metalizing involves the process of heating the metal in a vacuum chamber to be used in coating to its boiling point. Once the metal has vaporized, it is allowed to condense on the surface of the object to be coated forming a coating. Heating the metal to its boiling point and vaporizing it is done in several processes including resistance heating, and electron beam. Electric currents are passed through the metal where they encounter resistance hence heating the metal in resistance heating. Heating the metal using electron beams involves using cathode rays which emit negative electrodes in a vacuum tube producing heat. The main purposed of vacuum metalizing is to enhance the functionality of the object such as enhancing conductivity of poor electrical conductors objects, preventing wear and tear of the objects and also enhancing the appearance of the object.

There are various benefits of vacuum metalizing. Vacuum metalizing always results into a uniform polish on the object with minimal effects on the health of the user. This is because there some compound and metals that are highly toxic to living organism hence users are protected from coming into contact with them. Vacuum metalizing helps in producing highly durable metals that are not likely to contact water as well as air which triggers rusting in metals. Vacuum metalizing is also an environmentally friendly process reducing the amount of carbon released into the atmosphere.

During the process of vacuum metallization, it is important to take precaution measures that may damage the object during the process making it lose value in the market. Burned parts on the objects indicated by some parts lacking the shiny silver luster, distinct colors on the object as a result of the metal coating being too thin and appearance of rainbow colors on the object may lower the quality of the object. It is always important to ensure that the final product from vacuum metalizing is of high quality.
